Coyote vs. ACME (2026) spoilers;

i loooove self aware cartoon physics and silly jokes, so i already knew i was gonna love this movie, but i was not expecting such a moving take on hope. and guys, i needed this today.

let me first talk about my favorite jokes. opening a looney tunes movie with "based on a true story" is so fucking funny, and by that point we're not even 3 min into the movie, we haven't even seen coyote yet.

then when they present the characters as ROAD RUNNER (FASTAS HELLUS) and COYOTE (HUNGRIOUS CARNIVORUS), sighs, is so silly, i laughed ! cartoon arE funny !! i was giggling almost the whole time.

the scene of coyote putting his fallen tooth on a paper cup that says teeth in it, god it's so stupid, but so good, it makes me think about all the creative minds behind a movie like this, i'm so glad we're still making art, this is why gen-ai could never thrive in human society.

coyote is such a charming main character, he doesn't talk at all, but he has the coolest face expressions and body language, it's so funny. he has a very big personality, he's always scheming, and building shit, and moving around being a little bit sus. there's this short scene where he sings some legal papers, then immediately throws the pen away, and the lawyer says "rude.", it's very simple but very funny, and it shows who the characters are very very well, you can tell whoever wrote them, actually knows them and cares about accurately depicting them thru the story. i loved that scene, the framing, the pace, it's hard to put it into words, it's just so good. this movie is really good ! !

oh, and don't even get me started on reading a comically ginormous book on how to wait around dramatically, while he's literally waiting around dramatically, what other movie could give you this, if not the looney tunes.

physical comedy is one of my favorites, and coyote has always been my favorite looney tune, so i am definitely being biased, but every single frame with him in it was hilarious to me. look at his face and his demeanor after the villain says they thought cartoons were suppose to be funny, right after he did something funny. he's so much fun to look at,

and this one, he's just in the background literally helping nothing to the situation they're in, just trying to photocopy something for some reason, but he's doing it while on top of a chair with wheels on it, so he keeps falling face first on the floor, and getting up and trying again just to fall again,

there's also a montage of the villains trying to catch the road runner (fastas hellus) to the song Nobody Speak by DJ Shadow, and every bad word is censored with his iconic "beep beep". it was funny every time.

and when granny presented the anti-predator spray with a bunch of other silly little goofy cartoon specific inventions, just for it ending up being a regular pepper spray to avoid getting harassed by a disgusting man.... i did laugh, it happens so fast too, like most jokes in the movie, they make them and keep moving along like nothing happened, which makes it even funnier, they're incorporating into what looks like the normal real world elements and situations so absurd like they're normal.

we also get a very serious close up of their theory board, the one they're using to put all the evidence together, connecting clues and possible culprits with threads, and one of the post-its just says: why is duffy duck insane ?, and it's just so funny,

and just to end it somewhere, because i could just screenshot the whole movie, there's a scene at court where the lady transcribing everything everyone says, is actually, very seriously, writing down what taz says, and everyone is nodding like they understand him, but we as an audience get nothing, no translations just [unintelligible speaking],

it's really funny on it's own, but also specially on the context of the movie, because the cartoons either speak english, write what they want to say, gesture, draw, or just make themself understandable for the human characters in some way, like one beep for yes, two beeps for no. but taz is just screaming and making noises and they all understand him for no reason, and that's the beauty of cartoons, there's no rules, you can just do anything, bend reality for the plot.

anyway, that's for the funny bits.

it was also really cute the way the coyote-road runner relationship was presented, from the very beginning with the slow motion peak boink, to the very end when the road runner is the only one willing to testify in favor of coyote, calls him a friend, and uses his time to talk on the court to ask him if he's coming back. these being silent cartoon characters, and their show being mostly about coyote failing, no plot just funny falls compilation, we never get to understand them as friends, we never wonder if they would miss each other, so it was really nice to see them from this new perspective. you really can find a friend in the most unexpected places.

and then there is the actual teaching of the movie, we all know kid's movies are the best at hiding a deep meaningful reflexion behind a bunch of silly jokes, and in this case is essentially, never give up. keep trying, and if you fail, why not try again ?

it reminded me to this one tweet about hope,

[image id: a tweet by Matthew @crowsfault saying “People speak of hope as if it is this delicate, ephemeral thing made of whispers and spider’s webs. It’s not. Hope has dirt on her face, blood on her knuckles, the grit of the cobblestones in her hair, and just spat out a tooth as she rises for another go.”]

or that poem by Caitlin Seida, one of the verses says: Hope is not the thing with feathers / That comes home to roost / When you need it most. Hope is an ugly thing / With teeth and claws and / Patchy fur that’s seen some shit. It’s what thrives in the discards / And survives in the ugliest parts of our world.
i think i've said it before in here, but my will to live is not the strongest, i usually go thru my days like a leaf on a river, wherever it takes me, no fighting the current, just waiting for it to finally end. doom gets to me pretty easily, most days i don't see the point in trying, but i'm wrong ! we are not doom, and even i still have hope. hope is really hard to lose. it's nice to be reminded of that every so often.
