a tarot reading: predicting if 2 guys are finally gonna kiss
if you're not familiar with the show, it follows the day to day of a firefighter house, both their personal lives, and all the emergency calls they respond to. for the sake of this entry tho, you should only be concerned about two characters: Buck and Eddie.
HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD.
if you are an active member of the tumblr fandom community, it's basically impossible to miss the insane amount of people shipping them, and praying to the gods we are not getting queerbaited (again).
fandoms are known to imagine things, and headcanoning impossible scenarios. that's the fun of it ! being part of a community that creates beautiful things beyond the canon, sharing insane theories out of tiny bits and pieces hidden on the background of a scene, drawing comics with better quality than the show itself, writing fanfics that actually make your days happier, etc. so when i first started watching 911, i expected the ship to exists out of nothing, just two pretty dudes everyone wants to see kissing on 4k, i wasn't expecting the ship to be explicitly written on the show.
imagine my face when i saw the ship was literally real, and not a single thing ever shared online was fan's delusions. from the very first second the meet, it's gay.
Eddie joins the team on season 2, and the whole episode is about Buck being jealous of him, because he's so hot and perfect. the plot follows them both very closely until they become friends by the end of the episode. from that point onward, it only gets gayer.
they become super close, best friends, they raise Eddie's toddler kid together, hang out all the time outside of work, feel completely comfortable on each others homes (almost as if it was just one shared), every single fight they get thru is extremely queer coded, and the show doesn't shy away from showing how deeply they love each other, with small details, and with big BIG gestures. they get confused as a couple by strangers several times, and they're about to raise Buck's foster kid together on this new season coming out.
the main problem, was the fact that both of them are straight, and no mainstream tv show has ever made their token cis straight dude bro suddenly queer, no one would expect that to happen, they're just queerbaiting us, history repeats itself.
WRONG !! !!!!!!! !! ! season 7: Buck comes out as bisexual !! !!!! ! ! ! !!! ! !! ! ! ! ! queer. canon. oh, you had to be there, it was chaos ! !! so much fun.
not only turns out he was bi all along, but the story around his first boyfriend is suspiciously very focused on Eddie. They both meet Tommy on an epic super dramatic call where they save the day. Tommy and Eddie come out of if as very close friends, and as soon as Buck realizes he gets jealous, like he tends to do, he really doesn't like the thought of Eddie liking someone more than him. we get to see Buck in a series of very embarrassing attempts at either joining the new duo, or separating them forever. by the end of it, Tommy (who thinks Buck is trying to get His attention) flirts a little with Buck, shoots his shot, and they end up kissing.
even now that they're dating, the whole thing still Eddie centered. Buck is for some reason very very worried about coming out the closet to Eddie, because he desperately doesn't want anything to change between them. He eventually does, and Eddie reassures him it changes nothing to him, and they hug (it's very cute).
to keep the ongoing theme, the breakup is also about Eddie. Tommy breaks up with Buck because he thinks he is in love with Eddie, and that eventually he's gonna leave him for Eddie, he's just getting ahead of it so he doesn't get his heart broken. He explicitly says: you are living in Eddie's house, and you are in love with him, no room for interpretation, and Buck responds with one of his most iconic lines: this is not his house, he's a renting, and Eddie is straight, besides i don't have to sleep with everyone i have feelings for, or have feeling for everyone i sleep with.
not only does he not deny he's in fact in love with Eddie, but then he actually goes out of his way and admits "i don't have to sleep with everyone i have feelings for", which implies he has feelings, but won't ever act on them because Eddie is straight.
they break up, and when he talks about it with his sister, she lowkey agrees, it wouldn't be so crazy if he was in love with his best friend.
then on season 9, Eddie goes thru a lot of changes, many of them queer coded, and it feels like they're writing his characters towards some sort of breakthrough of his identity, that very much could be coming out the closet (or not).
and this (photo bellow) is the very first image teaser we get for season 10,
now the question is, is this an evil rouse, are the creators of the show queerbating us ? or is this actually going somewhere ?
are they finally gonna kiss ?
the only two cards that fell off while shuffling them, after writing this whole post, so the energy was very much present, are:
PAGE OF RODS (REVERSED): when reversed this card is usually tied to instability, which is often read as something negative, but the dictionary says it means "the condition of being likely to change, esp. unexpectedly", no negative connotations, just change.
of course taking care of a kid with special needs, it's gonna be a big change in their life, but not something they haven't done before. this card might be referencing that. unexpected or not, even if it's negative, we do need change to happen for them to kiss, so even reversed, this could be a good sign.
TWO OF PENTACLES: this card represents harmony in the midst of change. my face when i saw this card right after we got the "scary big fast change card", let's just say i smiled.
it make so much sense for them, the amount of crazy shit they've gone thru together, there's literally no obstacle they can't overcome together. they just love each other way too much, they would do anything for each other. so whatever is it they're throwing in their direction this season, they're gonna get thru it.
let's just hope the big crazy change has something to do with Eddie's catholic guilt, and coming out the closet, and let's hope too the harmony is them finally kissing.
or maybe the instability is Theo, and the harmony is Eddie helping Buck and realizing this whole co-parenting thing, might make them a little bit more than friends, and what if they kiss about it ??? ??
let's just put all of our energies out for a second, to manifest they go canon ⋆˚꩜｡⋆˚꩜｡⋆˚꩜｡
light a candle for them if you have the chance, they record the season as it comes out, so nothing is written on stone yet, we could change their fate ⋆˚꩜｡
