what if a sylvanian dog got biten by a radioactive spider ?

just after the spider-man movie came out i saw a photo of a cat sylvanian wearing a spider-man costume, and it was so perfectly crafted i thought it was official for a second, turns out it was just made by a very talented fan. i've been wanting one since then, but i didn't think i could make one, at least not as good, i can't sew and i don't understand clothes patterns a all. but just the other day, a short video made it to my feed, a person making a little spider-man suit for a baby bunny sylvanian, and guess what ? it looked terrible.

they used very cheap fabric, you know the one for arts and crafts that's very hard, the pattern was just them putting the fabric over the bunny and cutting it without measuring even once, they used glue to put it together, there was no blue, and the lines and the spider were so thick, it looked so messy. it reminded me something important, not having the skills or the talent, should never stop you from making art. if it being messy and ugly is a valid possible outcome, then i can totally make a miniature spider-man suit ! !!

so let's !

it's no joke the hardest part of it all was to choose which type on animal i wanted peter to be, he is no cat, nor a bunny to me, but there was still so many options, i was overwhelmed.

the idea was to get one of those mini ones that come alone in a tiny box, with a hat and bag, but my local toy store only had the white bunny, so i was gonna have to buy either a whole family or a set. i figured i could use the opportunity to buy one of my favorite sets and use one of the figurines to make spidey, i really want the bears on a picnic and the baby circus set but i never get them because they're expensive, so i thought this could be the perfect excuse. the problem was all the little clowns had make up on (little stars on their cheeks) and i didn't want that for peter. also i didn't think he would be a bear. so i decided against both sets.

since he's a new yorker, he could be a squirrel or a rat. they didn't have rats, only hamsters, and the squirrels had very big tails, that i thought would be very hard to work with. i loooove the hamster family tho, so i debated for a very long time if i should take them anyway, i guess you could think of them as a domesticated rats. but i didn't get them.

in my heart peter parker has the energy of a puppy. cute, loyal, a good boy, could kill you but won't. i looked at the dogs they had: the poodle family (big no, i don't like them, and the ears would make the mask have a weird shape), the husky family (maybe) and the caramel dog family (maybe). i already have 2 huskies (a baby fairy and an adventurer) so i went for the caramel puppies. specifically, the big sister.

next step: figure out how to make a spider-man suit. i had 2 pieces of cheap fabric, scissors, glue, black paint, a brush, a dog toy and dream,

let's just say this silly craft cost me part of my sanity.

i wanted to make a removable suit, so i decided to give my sewing skills (none) a chance.

i quickly learned why people were directly gluing the fabric onto the sylvanians, turns out his ginormous feet (so he can stand) make it impossible to have both fitted pants and removable ones, you have to choose. the holes for the legs need to be at least as big as the feet, which means they would be loose on the leg, and we all know nothing’s loose on spider-man suit.

i was not gonna stop sewing after half an hour trying to figure out how pants work, so i decided to sew the pants on him. just to realize right after: the pants were suppose to be blue.... but that was a problem for future me, because i was too busy trying to figure out how to add sleeves to the tiny shirt i made (that one is removable, yay). i was miserable the whole time but i did it, somehow. don’t ask me to recreate it tho.

and just when i thought the worst was behind me: the mask. i'm not proud to admit, i almost give up. instead, i ate something and played with my dog for a bit. it cleared my mind, and i was able to finish it ! kinda. it looks a bit wonky, but so does everything else so it matches.

i did give up on the shoes and no, i don’t want to talk about it.

here he is,

not gonna lie, he looks so silly, it feels like i have no other option but to love him dearly and forever.
