liar city

on today's episode of making a collage of every single book i read: liar city by allie therin

this book...... this was so silly y'all. imagine a world where people with empathy are a minority being discriminated against. even better, imagine the rich evil people in power experimenting on them to make them into weapons. imagine a dead man, with no emotions, trying to save the empaths from getting corrupted, trying to save the world from corrupted empaths.

this book was so silly and it took itself so seriously, i enjoyed every single word written in this story so much ! it was so fun reading the most absurd plot ever. the characters were really good, their dynamics were super entertaining, and the writing was actually pretty nice. i was hooked, i couldn't stop reading.

it follows a few characters (there's 3 povs) thru one day, maybe a couple of nights, it's a very short time tho, for the many many things that happen. they're all trying to solve a mystery, a murder, from different perspectives, with different approaches, and they all cross paths several times, even team up.

of course the most interesting part of the book (to me) was the dynamic between the main character, an empath, and the dead man. this is the first of a 3 books saga (that i will obviously be reading), so i'm hoping for a gay romance at some point, enemies to lovers, opposite attracts type of vibes. i'm excited to keep reading :D

also i hate to bring real world issues to my silly books, but i can't help myself. seeing the way the society in the book treats people with empathy, will get you thinking this is the most silly goofy idea ever, like that could never happen, it makes no sense, but alas, we do live in a society that discriminates groups of people for no reason at all. reading this got me feeling the way i think an alien would feel if they got here and saw a crazy amount of people hating on trans people for just existing. like ????? wth is wrong with you ? you don't have anything better to do ? literally anything ???

anyways, i gave it 3 stars, which is a good rating, contrary to popular belief. 3 means i really liked it, and i'm probably gonna be obsessing about it for a few months, but it didn't change my life, i will eventually grow out of it and forget i ever read it. a good time nonetheless.
