i wish i had a pen pal π
i am 2000's kid. kinda. i was born in 1997, so i got to live thru big big changes, crazy world updates ! i was there when social media was born, which means i was also there when it didn't exist yet.
i remember mailing letters, to my friends, to my family, to my favorite tv show, to a company to get a prize, to my favorite magazine. it was so much fun. getting to write, draw and plan everything with my own little hands, picking the correct priced stamp, putting it in the mailbox and just wait. the anticipation !! not knowing when they were gonna get it exactly and then receiving a letter back !! !! ! it was so cool !
i get to do it still sometimes, i have a couple of friends that live very far away and i send them christmas postcards every year, because i did it in person when we were at uni together, and i felt like keeping the tradition alive. i used to have a friend that moved out to london and i also sent her letters on her birthdays. oh ! and this girl i met on twitter and i used to exchange little k-pop goodies thru mail for a few years, it was really fun.
but it's not the same, i wish it was constant, i wish i had a pen pal. someone i could send a letter once a month and that would send me one back. and we only talk thru mail, no phone numbers, no social media, just cute little postcards and drawings. i could send them a few stickers and they could send me back a collage they made with those, i could color a cute drawing they made, idk, or ! what about sending back and forth a notebook ??? each gets to write and create in it for a month, god that would be like a dream !! !
these are some of my favorites letters from my personal collection,
wouldn't you be so happy to receive something that cute ?? ? wouldn't it make your days better to know one of these was traveling all over the world to get to you right this moment ? and all of them have such nice words written in them, so many nice memories...
i remember we used to collect pretty stationary just to write letters, with all our favorite characters in it, we even traded them ! we took them to school on a binder and spent hours looking thru them, negotiating and trading, like they were pokemon cards, so much fun. i really miss it.
