shout out to fun music, gotta be one of my favorite genres.

THIS (if u don't use spotify, you can see the list at the end of this entry) is my fun music playlist and i'm gonna talk about it. 

let's start with the queen herself: super yuppers ! 

wjsn chocome, much like orange caramel, is the fun quirky sub-unit of a big girl-group. this song is so silly, every single part: the lyrics, the concept, the costumes, the choreo. i remember when it came out in 2022 i thought "finally, it was about time someone brought fun back to kpop". 

and that was when i decided to make this playlist (although with the years i collected a few not-kpop songs too). risking sounding like an old hag, kpop used to be so much more fun when i started listening around 2011-2012. yes, part of it it's probably tied to the fact that i was a kid with no real problems so everything was more fun back then, but it's not just that !

 

kpop back then was all about fun ! about being different, you could tell it was kpop because who else was gonna dress up as sushi and do a silly little dance ?? who else was gonna pretend they were werewolves or have random superpowers and sing a weird song ?? 

 

everything was so much fun, just listen to: minimanimo by tiny-g, bar bar bar by crayon pop or piripom peripom by co-ed school. none of those groups exists anymore, they disbanded so long ago i can't even remember but all of them were iconic and they left behind a sound so unique. old kpop brings me so much joy.

 

the bar use to be so high, everything was campy, fun and crazy. we don't get mvs like gee by girl's generation anymore, you know when the line between cool and embarrassing is so blurry....... are they hot ? or losers ?

 

the years pass and everyone keeps getting cooler and edgier and nobody wants to have fun with me anymore. fun, upbeat, dance-y songs used to be the norm, now i have to wait around (sometimes years) until someone decides to make something silly again, like momoland in 2018 with bboom bboom, i remember everyone had so much fun with that one.

 

anyways, none of those songs are even in my playlist, i got a bit carried away remembering lmao. who brought this playlist back to life tho and made me want to talk about it was: YENA. she's always having fun, hasn't failed me a single time yet. her sound and her aesthetics reminds me so much of old kpop and it makes me so happy. she even has a collab with hatsune miku !! and we all know nobody's music is more fun that hers ! 

 

a few days ago she came back with a mini album, and the main song, catch catch, has exactly the same vibes as 2012 kpop. i added it to my playlist and it got me trapped on a loop where i can only listen to this playlist, which is why i'm blogging about it.

 

i've built this playlist over the years, with new songs i liked and old ones i suddenly remembered, so i've never stopped to actually look at it. now i did and i found something very interesting: apparently, girl's do it better ! there's 71 songs, only 11 are by men.

 

i'll come out and say it, i like girl-groups more than i like boy-groups. actually, i like women more than i like men, in general, not only in music, so this playlist might be biased. but ! there is a reason why i like girl-groups better, i think women are less scared of having fun, using bright colors, wearing silly outfits and performing a choreo with lots of open fun movements. 

 

nothing bothers me more than a man dancing to a girl-group song and making it look rude, macho, closing the moves, looking stiff. if you're not gonna to it right, then don't it at all ! move those hips, toss that hair, move your arms around, big ! take all the space !! jump, smile, do the silly pose !!!!! have fun !

 

sighs, i still remember when aespa was posting all these tiktok challenges for drama. almost none of the men that danced with them, actually did the finger pose they do in the dramamamamá part. they would either not pose the finger at all or if they did, they wouldn't frame their faces with it. it pissed me off so much. it's so easy too, like..... have a little whimsy, a little pizzazz, be cunty ! it's okay, i swear they won't take your men credentials away !

i don't want this post to turn into a rant about why men suck ! so let's go back to fun, shall we ? take a look at this:

i would also like to shed some light to a non-kpop singer on this playlist of mine, i discovered her very recently: miki.

 

her song: ça pik un peu quand même, has me on choke-hold so tight i have the melody trapped in my brain 24/7. + the mv is one the coolest pieces of art i've seen in a very long time. animation like this is so refreshing, i wish more people were willing to put out things that are not perfect. i loved it so much ! you can tell the huge amount to effort and love behind it. human art, my beloved <3
