all systems red

yet another entry on my quest to make a collage of every single book i read to motivate me to read more this year: all systems red by martha wells.

i kept delaying this post because i don't think i can articulate in words how much i loved this book. i feel such aggressive love for every single word written in it i don't think anything i say can express the way my brain feels.

let's start with this: i hate sci-fi. i think it's boring, i think it's overrated and it never catches my full attention. all i see is war, action and a bunch of men. i don't even enjoy the aesthetic, so sci-fi really does nothing for me.

when one of my besties recommended me this book, i was surprised. she knows i don't sci-fi but she also know what i like very well, so decided to give it a go. and oh boy, does she know me.

i made a post some weeks ago about what my favorite genre is, i basically said i don't have a fav genre but i will always enjoy a type of story: character driven with lots of dialogues and love (friendship, family, romance, idc) and the murderbot diaries are exactly that. it's like is was written for my enjoyment specifically.

i love murderbot. it's been a very long time since i've loved a main character this much. i'm so happy it's a saga, i want to keep reading about it forever !

the story of this one, the first book, follows murderbot's every thought while at work. it's a sec-unit, which is fancy for smart war robot, these bots are suppose to help protect humans on their missions around space. the humans have full control over them, they can make them do anything they want. not this one tho, murderbot has hacked itself and it's now a free agent that has to pretend to be a regular sec-unit so it doesn't get reset. what it does with its freedom ? pirate and watch trashy tv shows. luckily for it, it starts to work on a mission for the best crew ever. god i love these people so much. all the interaction they have with each other and with murderbot are so real, so well written, so funny. i won't spoil how it ends but i will tell you i only love stories with happy ending so, make your own conclusions.

i actually started the second book already and i don't know how it's possible but i think it's even better. the writing is just so good. it's a really good book y'all, with great commentary on how much life sucks and how lucky we are we love, support and understand each other.

the only thing i can say is: read it ! or listen to it, the audio-book is actually excellent as well. apparently there's also a tv show but i haven't watched it yet so i can't tell you if it's any good.

making a collage for this one was hard, idk if i captured the vibes of the book that well so here's some memes i found funny to add to the concept of the book your brain is trying to form,
