zelda taught me aranaras can be fun

 i've been playing genshin impact for years now. the amount of hours i've spent logged into that game is truly immeasurable, and i'm proud to say i am a f2p player, not a single euro went into my account. if you know something about gatcha games, you know that means you gotta play for so many hours to get shit done, so i know this game thru and thru. i love it. but it's also so annoying and frustrating sometimes, and on purpose too, because they obviously want you to go the easy rout and buy the things you need to win.

well genshin is famously known for copying the concept of the game of legend of zelda: breath of the wild. because i knew this, when faced with the decision: should i buy hello kitty adventure or botw, i assumed i was gonna enjoy zelda more because i already know i love genshin.

now because genshin exists and it wasn't sued and shut down, i thought when people said they copied zelda they meant it had similar dynamics, the same way every single the slice of life/rpg/farming cozy game resembles either stardew valley or animal crossing. 

you can imagine my surprise when i start playing zelda just to discover is the exact same game. they copied so much of it i don't even know how it's legal. everything. every. single. design. you name it, they copied it: characters, story lines, soundtracks, animals, maps, weapons, interface, menu, enemies, world building, fighting dynamics, leveling dynamics, controls, quests, recompenses, puzzles. e v e r y t h i n g. 

but ! what makes genshin annoying is not on zelda. botw is not a gatcha game, so it doesn't feel like a giant add to get you to buy the newest shiniest character, instead it feels made out of love and rewarding and cozy and fun.

okay, now that you are fully in context: zelda taught me aranaras can be fun ! !!

my least favorite quests on genshin are the aranara ones. aranaras are these cute little forest fairy like creatures that constantly need you help, they either take you on a bunch of silly side quests or on a big loooong world quest. you find them on the forest and talking to them triggers the quests.

and i agree, they're are adorable and i would love to have a plushie of every single one but god, there's sooo many and the quests are so long, so boring, so annoying, so very little rewarding. i avoid them like the plague. i see one of these guys on the forest i run the other direction. i've had the big aranara quest opened and unfinished since 2022, and you could never make me do it. 

guess my face when i solve a cute frog statue apple puzzle (4 of my fav things) and this little guy shows up: 

 yeah, that's an aranara. on my comfort game ?? no thank you ! but then after sharing some silly noises with me he gave me some sort of honey candy and left me alone. and i remembered: i'm playing botw NOT genhsin. of course the original version would be just cute and fun and not annoying at all. 

i later found another one literally under a rock, she was even cuter if that's possible, look at her !! with the little branch twee heeing ? ?? i relate to her so deeply,

that one also gave me a candy so started to get suspicious, i realized they weren't currency to buy stuff at the town stores but they had to be useful for something. then ! i found this BIG CHONKY korok:

he told me the monsters stole his maracas :( so sad. i've never taken a side quest faster than i did this one. and i was so glad, he was so happy ! !!!

 

apparently, the maracas are magical, he said it could make my storage space bigger in exchange for one of the honey candy. i sad yes ! spend the 2 i had and now i can come back every time i get more so i would keep getting more and more space ! !! its so nice and cute !

and that's exactly what i meant with the tittle of this entry. aranaras can be fun ! !! it's possible to make them not annoying and to make their little side quests interesting, fun and actually rewarding. now i'm walking around solving every single puzzle in hopes a tiny leaf creature will appear and give me so candy ! after making random noises. i can't wait to meet them all. it makes exploring the world more fun, it makes the travels to the main quest entertaining. they make the game better ! who would've thought ? me and aranaras being friends. tho i guess i should say koroks. i still hate aranaras......

 

some other thoughts that have nothing to do with the actual post:

❀˚₊i missed posting these days. even when i'm busy working i find myself thinking about the blog, the comments, how much i want to find a moment to write and to read whatever you guys wrote. i'm so happy i started this, i think it's gonna save me.

❀˚₊i just finished a book so i new book post is on the way ! which is the main reason why i started the blog. so i would feel like reading more because i would be looking forward making collages and sharing my reviews here ! (i think it's working)

❀˚₊i would never ! cook that frog that's my child ! !! i don't care how fast the food would make me
