tamagotchi plaza: the silliest goofy game

i was probably 11 years old when i got my first nintendo ds. i remember i got it for christmas and my little brother (who didn't ask for one) got so crazy jealous my dad had to go to the store and get him one too.

mine was better tho, because it was cherry red and it came with thE disk (the one you could use to pirate games), which means i didn't pay for a single video game ever. it also meant i had more games than time to play, so i had to pick and choose. my 2 favorites were: a very weird japanese rhythm game and ⋆ tamagotchi corner shop 2 ⋆.

you can imagine then how fast i bought tamagotchi plaza for the switch, as soon as it was out i was playing it. it's not a rare thing that you remember things better than they actually were but this time, it was as good as i remembered ! this game is so much fun and so specifically tailored to my brain.

so many goofy looking characters, silly story line and repetitive gameplay with a very clear, very simple reward and level up system. i could spend hours playing and never get bored (and i do)

if you know nothing about the games, you basically have to help the tamagotchis on their cute little stores so they can level up and the town can get bigger and cooler. the tasks are very simple but they come with no instructions, so you have to figure out on your own how each store works and how to make the costumers the happiest. and every single movement you make comes with the silliest noise effect you could imagine, it makes me so happy.

that is how a job well done looks like, very happy little creature with the glasses i made him, it's just so cute ! !! !

both the customers and the orders are completely random so you get these amazing moments like gozarutchi asking for a dreamy girly pop design and loving it ! so precious,

or the tamagotchi king, who is literally just an EGG, coming into the gym asking for a six pack and ending up looking like this, like............ this is so funny to me idk

i would say there's 2 types of stores, the ones where you get ask for something very specific and have to try and copy the request to the best of your abilities, like the cake store.....

not my best (skill issue), but how cute is it that she's asking for a cake design that looks exactly like her friend right behind her !

and there's also more creative ones, like the manga store or the cafe. here the customers ask for a concept like autumn vibes afternoon tea or kuromametchi magical girl adventures and you get the freedom of creating a piece without restrictions and pray they like it,

either way, is so much fun and it feeds my brain so well. i get so many ideas for little doodles and fun stories from this game. all the character designs are so good, i can't stop art and crafting when i think about them.

i cant help myself to compare the 2 tho, and i do miss some things from the one i used to play as a kid. i miss some of the stores like the sushi bar or the car garage but what i miss the most is the pencil and the tactile screen. it was so much easier to play when i had those, moving around with the joystick makes everything a little awkward and harder. and is it weird if i also miss the low quality ?? ? i used to love the pixelated ugly look everything had hahah

whats better on the newer version is the town itself. you can walk around, talk to all the characters and there's fun little side quests like playing hide and seek, watering plants and cleaning trash off the street. you also get so many more stores ! as you progress the story they combine stores and make these weird concepts like designing glasses made out of pancake batter ??? it's so much fun.

one of my favorite things too is collecting all the characters, the more you play the more tamagotchis you meet and they get saved in a pokΓ©dex type thing where you get to read about them and collect moments and different outfits.  you can also use the money to upgrade other parts of the town, not just the stores, so the parks keeps getting cooler and cooler.

idk, i think everything about this game is so rewarding and so much fun, if you get the chance, you should try it !

what games have you been playing lately ?
